Background Information

Agricultural GMOs help deliver more plant biomass, fibers, and seed oils for renewable products. Agricultural scientists are challenged to increase production yields while

preserving natural resources, protecting biodiversity and dealing with the ever-shrinking availability of arable farm land and available water resources.

The tools of biotechnology can be used to address challenges in agriculture by speeding up traditional methods of plant and animal breeding, helping to identify the most sustainable farming and ranching practices, and in understanding the biology of important agricultural species and ecosystems.
